Qld: Dutch ecstasy tablets destined for New Year parties

Police say a 10.5 kilogram package of ecstasy posted in the Netherlands and seized
in Brisbane on Christmas Eve was probably destined for New Year's Eve parties.

A 37-year-old man appeared in Southport Magistrates Court today on drug trafficking
charges following a surveillance operation by Australian Federal Police.

DAVID LLOYD FOYSTER, of the Gold Coast, was granted bail and ordered to appear again
on February 17.

If convicted he faces up to 25 years' imprisonment.

Police estimate the tablets had a street value of $1.5 million.

Australian Customs Services border operations manager DAVE DOONAN says about 46,000
tablets were found in video cassettes.

The parcel was intercepted at a courier company's office at Brisbane airport on Christmas Eve.

AFP agent PAUL JEVTOVIC says police are working with European counterparts and are
hopeful more arrests will follow overseas.
