FED: Science and medicine rools not sport and politics survey
Australians are more interested in science, health and the environment than sport or
politics.
Research carried out for CSIRO by pollsters ACNielsen has found 86 per cent of Australians
are very interested in medical discoveries and environmental pollution.
But 67 per cent are very interested in sport, and 63 per cent in politics.
CSIRO chief executive Dr MALCOLM MCINTOSH says the poll is the third in five years to
demonstrate the strong interest Australians show in science and technologies.
Yet he says Australian media coverage of sport and politics continues to far outweigh
coverage of those issues.
More than twice as many women were interested in science, technology and the environment
than sport.
Strong male interest in science and innovation was more than double the interest in
politics.
