Vic: Neighbour who defends woman stabbed

MELBOURNE, Feb 19 AAP - A neighbour who tried to defend a woman during a domestic dispute
has been stabbed in the abdomen.

Police say the man heard the dispute about 11.25pm (AEDT) last night in a house in
Beasley Street, Werribee, south-west of Melbourne.

Another man, who had arrived at the house earlier, was threatening the woman with a knife.

"A neighbour who heard the disturbance went to the house to help the woman," Senior
Constable Wayne Wilson said today. "The man who was threatening the woman lunged at the
man (the neighbour) and stabbed him in the abdomen."

The injured man, aged in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to The Alfred Hospital.

Police searched the area but the attacker had fled.
