Iemma to take on treasurer role =3 Sydney

The incoming premier's decision to take on the treasury portfolio follows today's sudden
resignation by Treasurer and Deputy Premier ANDREW REFSHAUGE.

Mr IEMMA says he had asked Dr REFSHAUGE to consider standing aside as deputy premier.

But he denies he was trying to push out the long-serving deputy and senior Left-faction
figure, saying he had wanted Dr REFSHAUGE to remain as treasurer.
